A call for applications is now open for the attribution of one Research Fellowship for Master degree within the scope of the R&D project (PT SMART RETAIL: Portugal como referência para a nova geração de retalho autónomo e inteligente, reference PRR/18_SMARTRETAIL, financed by the European Union, by Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) through the Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation – IAPMEI, I.P, under the following conditions:

Non-conferring degrees courses: is intended for carrying out R&D activities by masters enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree.Requirement for granting the fellowship: The applicants may apply without prior registration in the course for which the fellowship is open. The requirement to enroll in a degree course or non-academic degree course will be verified on the date of contracting the fellowship;Only fellowships whose selected applicants present a valid proof of enrollment in a degree course or non-academic degree course will be contracted, according to the type of the fellowship, indicating, respectively, the academic year or its duration (start and term).Profile: The following are eligible to apply for this competition:
Nationals or citizens of other member states of the European Union;Citizens of third countries;Stateless persons;Citizens with political refugee statusCandidate admissibility requirements: Candidates must have application data for a master's degree in the scientific area of Industrial Electronics and Computer Engineering.Candidates enrolled in a course that does not award a degree: Candidates who exceed, with the signing of the scholarship contract in question, including the renewals provided for in the notice, an accumulated period of two years in this type of scholarship, consecutive or interspersed, cannot benefit from the competition scholarship.Proof of academic qualifications completed by the application deadline is required during the contracting phase, including those resulting from academic degree recognition processes.Preferred factors:Research knowledge with motion planners for robotic manipulators, especially with human-like motion planners for uni/bimanual robots;Knowledge with robotics simulators;Knowledge in ROS;Experience in ROS.Workplan and objectives to be achieved: The selected candidate will develop research and development activities under the Smart Retail project, with a view to the development of robotic systems capable of performing replacement activities in retail stores. The tasks of the applicant shall be:
Finalize the integration and operationalization of the second arm installed in the anthropomorphic structure (RAMBO), ensuring low-level control of this component;Conduct real-world testing of motion planning for two arms in the task of restocking products on the vertical neutral shelf;Integrate the motion planning module into the system architecture, enabling the reception of product poses and information on the placement shelf location from the vision system, as well as receiving requests from the stock manager.Fellowship duration: The grant will take place for a period of 6 months, with a provisional starting date on the month of May 2025.
For students enrolled in a non-degree-granting course, the scholarship is renewable for up to one year. Under no circumstances may it exceed the maximum period allowed by the project and/or provided for in the legislation and regulations in force.
Amount of the research grant: The value stipend (Monthly Maintenance Allowance) is 1309,64 EUR/month, in accordance with the stipends values published by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT I.P.) in the country.
Other benefits: Reimbursement of Voluntary Social Security (Social Security contributions), corresponding to the 1st level of discounts (for research grants with a total duration 6 months or higher) and personal accident insurance.
